Held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds on Nov. 3 to 4, this celebration will teach you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about gourds. You can take classes to learn how to decorate a gourd; shop the great selection of vendors selling their gourd artwork; explore the displays to learn how gourds have been used as instruments, utensils, bowls, and toys around the world; and much more.
If you want to get a head start on your holiday shopping with some special gifts, make plans to check out the Carolina Artisan Craft Market on Nov. 2 to 4, 2018, at the Raleigh Convention Center. This market brings in over 100 contemporary fine craft artists to display and sell their pieces. You’ll find a variety of disciplines at the market, including glass, ceramics, handmade furniture, jewelry, metal, leather, mixed media, and more. The market will also offer live music and artist demonstrations.
For 14 years, Stone Soup Supper has offered a fun event where you can taste delicious soups and do some shopping. This year, Stone Soup Supper is bringing more chefs than ever before to this popular competition. On Nov. 13, head to the McKimmon Center to enjoy soups prepared by 20 local chefs. Vote for your favorite, and see who wins the title of Soup-erior Chef. While you’re there, you can also shop for pottery pieces from The Triangle Potters Guild.
On Nov. 17, over 100 dancers, musicians, storytellers, authors, and artists from the eight state-recognized tribes of North Carolina will gather at the North Carolina Museum of History for the 23rd Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration. This event will give everyone a firsthand opportunity to learn more about North Carolina’s past and present Native American culture thanks to activities that include games, craft demonstrations, hands-on presentations, foods, and more.
Get ready to greet the holiday season with the 74th Annual Raleigh Christmas Parade on Nov. 17. This popular event is the largest of its kind between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. If you’re one of the over 60,000 people who will attend the parade in person, you’ll enjoy marching bands, floats, balloons, dancers, and more. After the parade, be sure to check out the local stores and restaurants to see what type of specials they’re offering for Raleigh’s Shop Local event.
